Great Turnout for Hursey Common Work Party
A very big thank you to the 30 or so people, young and old who gave up their Sunday morning to help at the work party at Hursey Common. It was a fantastic team effort and among the tasks completed was the building of a replacement foot bridge over the stream – the original had rotted away, the hanging of two gates at the entrance to the sports field, scrub cleared from the wild flower meadow, the repair of the fencing at the sports field with posts kindly donated by Rob Hedditch and the clearing of scrub from the sports field fence. We have been asked where the excellent bacon and sausages came from, they came from our very own excellent Village Shop.
Join the Hursey Common Work Party – 9 December
A Hursey Common Working Party has been arranged for 9 December – this Sunday from 10.00 am. A lot of the work will involve cutting brambles and scrub back from the sports field fences, paths and wild flower meadow. Gloves, strong boots or wellies and working clothes advisable. If you have secateurs, loppers and heavy duty shears, please do bring. There are a couple of gates to hang and a foot bridge to be built over a stream. Children are very welcome, there will be suitable work for them to do. Refreshments of tea and coffee, bacon and sausage sandwiches and a veggie option will be served. Please do join us if you can.

Neighbourhood Plan Submitted for External Examination
At its meeting on 12 November, the Parish Council gave its approval for the Draft Neighbourhood Plan to go forward and be submitted for independent examination. All submission documents can be viewed online.
Crossbow on Hursey Common
The Parish Council has been informed that crossbow bolts have been found on Hursey Common. Given that the Common is a well-used public space, this is not a suitable place for this type of activity and as such poses the risk of serious injury. Crossbows are not permitted under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to kill animals and they are considered an offensive weapon if they are used in a public place without reasonable excuse. Dorset Police have been contacted about this matter and have advised that if anyone witnesses a crossbow being fired in a public place, to contact them immediately on 999. The Parish Council urges users of the Common to be vigilant at this time.
New Councillor for Broadwindsor
The Parish Council is pleased to announce that at its meeting on 12 November, Cindy Bodycombe was co-opted to the Council for the Broadwindsor ward. We wish Cindy the very best in her new role and look forward to working with her.
