Beaminster Town Council has been gifted a 16-seater bus from Dorset County Council and plans are being made to introduce a Saturday Bus Service, operating between Bridport and Crewkerne, stopping at Beaminster and a number of villages including Broadwindsor. It is hoped that the timetable can be arranged so that travellers can connect with the X51, X53, South West Coaches No.96 and train services at Crewkerne.
A first draft of a timetable has been produced and Beaminster Town Council want to hear from local communities to find out when they need to travel. Please do take a look at the draft and feedback your thoughts, concerns and suggestions so that a service that meets the real needs of local people can be developed.
The Multi-Use Games Area project has already received £40,000 of funding from the Parish Council, West Dorset District Council, the FMR Trust and from the National Lottery Awards for All Programme – a really great achievement. Some of these grants are time limited and in order to take full advantage of this funding, the project must start during the Summer months. There is currently a shortfall of £20,000 and the Parish Council has carefully considered a number of different funding options.
The Parish Council would like to apply for a loan from the Public Works Loan Board, a body which provides funding for capital projects to parish councils and other public organisations. The loan will be paid back over a period of twenty years and will not affect the level of the Precept. The MUGA project and loan application will be discussed at the Parish Council Meeting on Monday 14 May at Comrades Hall. Please do come along and share your thoughts or get in touch directly.
The Chairman of West Dorset District Council, Cllr. Peter Shorland, has created a small grant fund to support community projects that commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War. A total budget of £10,000 has been set aside to create this fund and community groups and town/parish councils are invited to apply for grants of between £250 and £500. Applications must be submitted by 11 June 2018 and decisions on the award of grants will be made by 13 July. The project must take place in 2018. Application forms are available here.

Members of the public and press are very welcome to attend.
The Parish Council is very pleased to report that it has been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All Programme towards the cost of installing a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). The MUGA will be sited at Broadwindsor School and will provide a safe, inclusive place for everyone from across the whole Grouped Parish area, to enjoy sport, meet people and have fun.
In partnership with Broadwindsor School, the project has already received funding from the Parish Council, West Dorset District Council and from the FMR Trust and is well on its way to meet its target. However, we do need to do a little bit more and with this in mind, we would like to invite the community to get involved and help. If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to set up your own fundraising event, please do get in touch.
